Trail to 2021:
Inner Strength

This is the final video in our Trail to 2021 Series.

It’s all about growing your personal strength as a big part of growing an even bigger vision of you and your horse for 2021.

I hope you enjoy it. Here’s to you. You’re awesome!

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

Heh, it’s Barb

For the past few weeks, during our Trail to 2021 series, I’ve been encouraging you to create a vision and the story for your riding for 2021.

I shared that riding has many pieces to it and once you understand what they are, then you can go about consciously developing them individually.

And then, of course, ultimately, they all blend together… beautifully.

I used the mushroom tree in our pasture as an analogy to talk about the technical piece which has to do with the mechanics of riding.

Then we touched on the connection element which is an interactive relationship of trust and feel between you and your horse.

Now in this video, which is the final one in the Trail to 2021 series, I’m going to share what I know to be true about another important element of riding, and one I’m so passionate about.

It’s your personal strength: your preferences, your resiliency, and your flexibility. These are represented by the gorgeous trunk and huge roots of the mushroom tree.

And the awesome thing is, your personal strength sets the stage for everything you do with your horse… everything.

Now there are a couple of parts to this inner core of personal strength.

The first is cultivating your joy and appreciation for all you do with your horse in the way that you do it.

Celebrate how you’re growing personally.

Who are you becoming because of riding?

Our horses bring such richness to our lives. Sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of that. But when we nourish a belief in ourselves, that belief becomes the backdrop for all we do.

Then we can pick ourselves up when we fail, or our horses get lame, or whatever else happens.

We’re in it for the long haul and for the love of the horse… and also for the love of our adventures with our horse.

Another piece of personal strength is developing the skill of being in the present with a horse.

It’s learning to breathe as a way of being, to get still on the inside, to focus, to observe our horse, and feel his movements, and ride moment to moment.

It’s being in total synchronicity with ourselves, our horse, and the job at hand, all at the same time.

This is a skill… not a talent.

There are tools that can be so easily learned.

What matters most is not just learning the tools, but practicing them, just like practicing the mechanics of riding.

And the awesome thing is, when you do, it’s your focus and the management of your energy that opens the door to be your best on your horse.

And when you’re at your best, that opens the door for your horse to be at his or her best, too.

Personal strength comes from the inside first.

Nothing you can see on the outside ever happens without it happening on the inside first.

As you develop these skills, they will open you up to truly unlimited possibilities so you can really see and listen to your horse as you go about doing what you’re planning to do.

So, this year, I encourage you to actively, and consciously, grow your inner strength for yourself, and for your horse.

How will you do that?

There are a number of ways.

Certainly, we will explore them here each week during these Sunday videos, and also, in courses throughout the year.

That’s one way.

Also, you can seek to nourish your confidence with a ‘go for it’ attitude. Watch videos of riders you admire. Read writings that teach and encourage you at the same time.

Have fun!

We who love horses, get to experience our journey with a horse and our horse-loving friends. How lucky we are!

So, leave a comment for me.

What do you think about these ideas?

Here’s to you, and growing stronger, and clearer, and calmer within.

I promise, as you grow, you’ll just keep unlocking your potential, and your horse’s potential.

Your inner strength is the foundation for all you do.

Go get ‘em in 2021.

  22. I’m thinking that I want to find my inner strength. How funny I never thought of this, before. I feel strong but maybe only on the outside. I really appreciate your suggestions which come across very calm and, I think, soothing. It seems to help the thoughts sink in. Thank you for passing on your suggestions to all of us.

  24. Barb, I want to express my deep gratitude for all that you have shared these past months. I too will always be a loyal fan, and will strive to fine tune inner strength and further connectivity to the equines that grace my life. I have read some of the authors’ books that you have referenced through the course and appreciate the suggestions you made. Happy trails.
