Powerful and Easy when snowed in

Every year about this time of year, winter seems to linger forever in some parts of the world.

When the snow flies during the holidays and again in January and early February, we accept it as par for the course for winter. Still, by late February, we think, “Enough already!”

If you feel like there’s ‘nothing’ you can do about riding because winter (or any inclement weather) keeps dragging on, I have a suggestion for you.

That’s what this video is all about.

I have an exercise for you. It’s simple to understand, and the results can be big when you consistently invest energy into it.

It’s from Daniel Coyle’s book, The Little Book of Talent, where he describes a powerful, easy, and fun visualization activity called ‘engraving.’

Here’s how it works.

Find a video of a rider you love – their style, horsemanship, presentation, etc. Make sure it’s someone you superbly admire.

Then ‘stare’ (get swept away) at that video several times daily. Don’t try to analyze it. Don’t compare yourself or your horse to those in the video. Just become immersed in watching it. Enjoy it, or you can pretend it’s you. The trick is, to stare at it repeatedly.

I can’t explain precisely how it happens, but you will take on some of those characteristics. Of course, you still have to do the riding work when the time comes, but the payoff for engraving is big.

And you don’t have to be snowed in to do it!

Please leave a message for me, and let me know what you think!

  2. I truly love everything you share with us. You have such a calming way about yourself along with a natural and knowledgeable format that is very helpful and appreciated. You made me giggle today! Glad you are not pregnant! Of course Nick isn’t either. But what I especially appreciated was that f Nick hadn’t actually wrinkled up his muzzle a couple times he appeared to be a statue today. Love him! What a good boy. Thank you sincerely for all you share with us.
