Dreams Take Their Own Path

An interesting phenomenon happens when we allow ourselves to dream what we really want to do instead of what we think we’re supposed to do – or have done in the past.

When we don’t limit ourselves and decide to go for it, the track of our lives can turn into an adventure.

That’s what this video is all about.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

Hey, it’s Barb, and I’m here with Nick.

I want to share something interesting that’s happened in the last few days.

First, I’m filming this on Wednesday before this Sunday. My husband Tom and I are getting ready to go to Todos Santos, Mexico, on the Baja Peninsula, where our nephew is getting married.

Well, last evening, when we checked the weather, we realized that a hurricane was coming straight for Cabo San Lucas, 45 miles south of Todos Santos.

So then we immediately start looking at the storms forecasted and potential paths. How strong will it be, etc.? Of course, as usual, there are a lot of different paths it could take.

We’re deciding if we’ll be able to go and, if we do, could we get home?

Coincidentally, I planned to talk to you about dreams and how they can take many different paths, too.

Here’s what I mean.

When we have something we love to do and are very passionate about it, we set goals. We have goals we can measure and then plan the little steps to get there.

But what often happens is that we try to determine the exact path to accomplishing it.

So, when I saw all the hurricane paths pop up, it was a direct analogy to the variety of paths our dreams can take.

I started thinking about some of my friends who have things going super this Fall, and they’re doing great.

Other friends had a horse get lame, or things caused them to take a different track than planned.

The analogy is perfect. We set our sights on a dream, but the secret is never to let go of the juice of the dream, but do let go of it having to be a certain way.

Instead, think of it as a big adventure! Be open to the twists and turns.

That frees us to allow things to happen naturally and not according to our predetermined schedule.

Then, we can be open to opportunities we could never have imagined.

Haven’t you had times when you were thinking of doing something you were excited about, and then suddenly, something perfect and unexpected came along? Maybe that ‘thing’ made it even more exciting than ever.

To dream is so important. The passion is so important. And then… just like the hurricane, step back and see what path it takes,

One thing is sure: if you never give up and keep going for your dream, you will take the track to some great adventures.

That’s what I have for you today.

I’ll tell you what happened on our trip to Mexico next week.

Have a great week. Leave a comment for me. Bye. Bye.

  2. To a much smaller aim I think that is what I do almost everyday when I go to ride. I walk out the door with an idea of what I thought we were going to work on. Then I get saddled and into the pen and my pony has a completely different idea or need. Then it’s up to me to respond to my pony and see what we can work on together. And it’s almost always better than what I thought we were going to get accomplished.

  4. I find myself in the same situation with a younger horse I recently purchased. Planning the training sessions, while being open to what is happening, allows for intuition to come on board and spontaneity to arise. He still gets to learn, so do I, and our bond strengthens.

  6. Hey Barb
Timing is impeccable. This piece regarding your New Mexico trip, pretty much sums up the last few weeks of my life.
Do you go on with Cutting or find another path?
The horses that I have chosen are not up to par in Texas, or are too green, and so am I.
    Life’s about choices.
I’m looking for maybe a new path.
Thanks for sharing and have a great trip

  8. Thank you. Perfect at this time. Allowing “my dream” to its thing… mostly peaceful. Then I ride and learn and it’s better!

  12. Hi Barb, I hope you and Tom get to go to the wedding and that you have a wonderful time there! I ALWAYS appreciate your encouragement about hanging onto our dreams because I still do have “Big Dreams” that are with me in my mind every day. I talk to myself about them daily! Nobody else hears them except God, and a few close friends who know me well. So thank you again for your insight into how dreams can happen —in time!!! 🙂

  22. I had just the very thing happen to us on a trip to New Zealand a few years ago. Someone was suppose to meet us and take us on a tour around the South Island. Just as we board our plane to fly down we get a text saying that they are unable to meet us. I was upset thinking “now what do we do”, when my sweet husband Robert said “we will rent a car and make our on route”. We did just that and it was a wonderful experience and adventure. Much more fun than we would have had if the people could have met us. I needed to hear this very message from you this morning as I prepare to leave for SHOT World show tomorrow. Hours and hours of practice and prep time with my beautiful mare Maggie. This message make me remember “It Don’t Matter” LOL. We just need to enjoy every moment of this adventure no matter the outcome. It is my joy to be there with Maggie!! Love it!!!! Thank you Barb!! You always have just what I need to hear!!
