Thank you Barbra for your time and energy in bringing these lessons to us. Confidence within is grabbing me these days. My horse and I have a really nice rapport on the ground and I always feel very safe with him. But lately its been the act of tacking him up that starts to bring on some anxiety. I know in my heart that he would never hurt me intentionally, but I feel like my skill set is lacking a lot right now. I’ve recently begun working with someone who teaches natural horsemanship and I love the gentleness of the… Read more »
Thank you, Cath. I enjoyed your answer!
I enjoyed your first lesson. On quick assessment, my lack of confidence is from my age. I’m 52. I always loved horses, but really only was able to “take lessons” when I was around 10. And my trainer was a friend who was 11! I’ve been watching my son take lessons for the past 4 years. Now I take a few lessons a month with him. I don’t go more often because I think and say to myself” what are you doing!? You are too old to start now. If I fall off I won’t be able to work and… Read more »
Hi, Mary. I understand. Sounds like a plan to gradually and safely introduce him to outside is in order. Being safe is most important of all. (-:
I agree with all you said, Shari! Positive mentoring is important… and we are the only one who can decide to seek that out!
Pat, I agree… especially with the relaxed and happy part! So glad you’re enjoying riding so much now.

Good luck, Gene! Stay safe… and enjoy!
Thank you for the video Barbra. Confidence is by far been the biggest barrier of my entire life. My love of horses has always over ridden that barrier. That being said, as I age I find my ability to just go out and do it dwindling. There was a time that after working 12 hour shifts, my go to relaxation was to ride out on my own for an hour or so. Some of my favorite memories are of weekend long camping trail rides with friends. Ironically now that I have more time a live on what use to be… Read more »
I agree about safety, Patricia. Always #1 for confidence.
Hi, Bri. Blessings to you. So glad you’re here!
Hi, Karen. Glad you’re here. Without sounding too cliche-like, the joy truly is in each day. I say do what you want each day and enjoy. It’s totally your journey. Welcome!
Thank you, Maria. Your words mean a lot to me. I’m glad you’re here.
Hi, Kristi! Welcome and I bet it does!
Bri, blessings to you. I’m so so glad you’re here.
I loved lesson one and the thing that resonated with me the most is having confidence within. Being more fearful and in a state of anxiety on the ground with my horse vs riding her is my biggest stumbling block so confidence with my horse to me, is my ability to be able to simply be with her confidently, safely and to just enjoy being with her. Looking forward to lesson two very much. Thankyou.
thank you Barbara, perfect timing, couldn’t agree more! Amazing how long it’s taken to get to this understanding!! 2 decades for me. after not riding since a kid. Now on the brink of 60 yrs, but oh so ready to go further….with calmness, clarity and communication. Looking forward to more from you:)))))
Great, Constance… yes, we all need a boost from time-to-time. You’re doing a good job! I’m glad you’re here.
Great. Thank you for sharing, and I hope you enjoy!
Hi, Cindy… that’s a great question. I can’t say for sure, but I do know it is a strong human desire to be connected with others, which is why it can be so painful to not be. That being said, I think we can learn to trust our own heart more and check in there as our guiding light in all things. Like everything, it takes practice. Great question.
Great! Glad you’re here, Carol.
Riding with confidence to me would mean that I am in tune with my horse. And share the joy of going places for trails.
Long Post. Hi, I’m Sherri, and I LOVE these 3 intro lessons! My issue, riding technical abilities due to someone crashing a car into mine when I was sitting at a red light. For a while I let Injuries and Fear impact my life and confidence. (Yes, I own it, with the proviso these are challenges to overcome. ) Years ago, I felt mentally “on the bit”. Confident in riding abilities and skills of my horse, along with helping other riders. My horse care, seat, jumping, dressage at their best. I rode with others out of a beautiful barn in… Read more »
i think riding with confidence to means a real deep peace on the inside of me no matter what is happening on the outside or with my horses reactions and for them to know that peace and be able to be a good leader in all situations . i really enjoyed this first session, thank you.
I think riding confidently means that your mind is free of anxiety about getting bucked off or not being able to control the horse if it bolts.
