Wow: This set of lessons could not have been better timed for me. I am still recovering from an injury in my upper body from an accident at work. It may still be months before I am cleared to ride again. My 32 year old Arabian was my soul buddy and now that he is gone, I have inherited my daughter’s 14 year old gypsy sport horse. During my healing, she has become quite the lovely pasture ornament. My goal is to build a trusting relationship with this lovely mare because I believe that is the beginning of truly being… Read more »
Awesome, Anne Lynn! You’re a good student! (-:
Riding with confidence means, for me, that I am able to find a place with my horse where I forget about all my fears of “not being enough/not knowing enough/ not trusting myself enough…and that I find the authenticity of just being in the moment with this beautiful creature to be enough. I’m 67 and am just getting back into riding. I have had this filly since she was 10 months old, she’s now 5. (She had health issues where I could not work with her for the past 2 years). I am the one who broke her in. She… Read more »

So glad, Shannon. Welcome!
Hi! Thank you for this thoughtful series. Each example you provide regarding riding confidence, or lack thereof, I am experiencing. I can see where I want to take myself and my horse, but it seems so far away from today. Even my horse was begging me to tell him to canter, but the signal he was trained for and what I provided did not tell him ‘Green Light! Canter!’. However, after multiple hours last week in which cantering was the technical skill to be demonstrated and not attained, my post and sitting trot skill is excellent, and my leg strength… Read more »
I just finished Lesson 1. For years, I like many others have struggled with all 3 areas- unsure of myself and wanting to be successful. Now that I am older, I value happiness with myself and with my relationship with my horse. Still learning. Does one ever stop worrying what others think?
Hi, Shannon. Welcome. It is awesome that you are here with us. I bet you’re happy to be with your horse now!
So glad, Kris! I’m glad you’re here.
Looking forward to the lessons.
Hi, Elaine, I’m delighted you are here! I think you’re perfect! (-:
No doubt the confidence to rude. I really enjoyed this 1st episode
Hi, Ruth and Oloha to you! Good for you. You keep at it and I’m sure you have a relationship with your weekly horse. I hope these lessons give you lots of great ideas.
Thank you, Helene for your comment. I so agree with you.
Being a military spouse I have moved around and have not ridden much since a teen until 3 years ago when my husband retired from AD. I now have my own horses at home and trail ride but don’t have mentors or instruction and struggle with my confidence on my newer, green horse that I’m doing the right things to get him where I know he can be.
Hi Barbra, I just watched lesson 1, saved the note sheet and am looking forward to the next 2 lessons. I think I am all three. I am so confident on the ground but when I get into the saddle….. well that is another matter. I envision what I want to do and I am perfect, well as perfect as I can be, but when I get into the saddle everything falls apart. So these lessons will help and any other videos, books, etc. that you can recommend. Thanks for great lessons!
You’re so welcome, Lisa. Thank you for being with us!
Take care!
