Connecting with. Being part of community is my biggest need and set back. I have horses on our ranch to ride, but lessons and competition keep me going and motivated. As a novice in cowhorse, I feel more like an interloper (pun intended) than part of the community. I’m not good enough to be in with “the cool kids.” I haven’t arrived at some level. The problem with that thinking is what is the level I need? I need to be confident where I am now, jump into the warm up arena and show pen, and get riding! Thank you,… Read more »
I had a bad fall from my mare at least 8 yrs ago. The fall was during a canter into a corner. I became unbalanced for some reason and fell oddly acquiring broken ribs. It took me at least 2-2.5 yrs to get back on her. With the help of a friend/trainer i was able to get on her and take lessons that helped. At first i could only walk my mare. She is not an easy ride having an old right shoulder injury prior to my owning her. She also has navicular syndrome as a result of the injury.… Read more »
What really resonated with me was having the confidence to ride. I bought my first horse. a Peruvian gelding, when I was 47 – he was only 8, but he was the horse the grandkids rode, so he was the perfect 1st horse. He was kind, well behaved, and easy to handle and ride, and we consistently won ribbons in the show ring. Fast forward 20 years, knowing I could no longer ride him, I bought a mare who was scared of everything, would routinely try to run over me, and always felt like she was on the verge of… Read more »
My issue is riding with confidence following a horseback riding accident several years ago and not to mention my age, 54. I have great horses, we have a good relationship and do well with groundwork, the fear sets in when I saddle up! My goal is trail riding and obstacles.
Joyce, thank you so much! I appreciate you and I’m glad you like the lessons.
Confidence within translates to confidence in your partnership. Having solid support means the difference between being an active participant and a fence sitter. Sometimes we just need to get out of our own head and go for it! I learned to show and honestly hated the pressure of it all. When I finally threw in the towel and took my horse trail riding, no pressure to preform, it transformed my relationship and my riding abilities. Now becoming the rider my horse deserves is a wonderful learning journey.
Hi, Jacqueline, I think you’re with a horse crazy group here! (((-: Welcome!
Confidence within. It is so hard to think with your heart and not your head. We do some spiritual work on our farm and I know that being in your head does not give you that connection but I haven’t found the wording to help me fully take it. If I’m right its the first thought before you think, like a pop in. I’m really looking forward to you helping me get closer. Then confidence to ride. I doubt my knowledge. I would just like to ride around our farm with a connection with my horse
Hi, Kamma. Welcome! Glad you’re with us.
Thank you, Ginger, and yes, Jack and Paula are great!
Hi, Elaine, I’m delighted you are here. Yes, both kinds of confidence work hand-in-hand as you know!
I’m excited to have found your website and free lessons. Your approach is different from any other lessons I’ve had. As a child I loved horses and rode on vacations. That was it. I got my first horse when I was 35. She was an 18 yr old Appaloosa, a seasoned show horse whose showing days were over. I always said she taught me how to ride. She was kind and I trusted her. She eventually became a “lawn ornament” and I got my 2nd horse, a 7 yr old Appaloosa gelding. I found out I didn’t know as much… Read more »
Hi, Lori. I’m so glad you are here. I think you’ll find some great way to redirect your nerves as you ride.
I want to get back to riding my horse, but life has got in the way too many times in the last 10 years. Every time I think it’s time, something else happens to get in the way. I board my horse at a friend’s place, so I don’t see her everyday like I used to. When I go out to the barn I want to spend time with her, but chores and people get in the way. After a serious riding accident 9 years ago, I simply lost my confidence and was scared to ride again. I didn’t start… Read more »
Hi, Lexxie, I hope so too. I know you will miss your friends, but I hope over time you will find just the right people to move forward with.
My pony is very spooky, I have lost confidence hacking after he spun & I fell.
I am so glad that I have subscribed to your lessons, and am praying that they will help me get back to the level of riding I use to be. Like everything life happened and kept me from riding and competing while I adjusted to my new singleness in this life. I have found that I struggle with my confidence in my riding, I do not feel like I ride as good since the long layoff than I did before and have found that it makes me not want to get out and ride everyday, the way I use to.… Read more »
Hi, Missy! You hit the nail on the head! Yes… we all need to learn how to cultivate our confidence. Thank you for your comment.
Hi, Chloe. Welcome! I’m sorry for your misfortunes… but I’m glad you’re here!
