Riding confidence to me means total focus on connecting with my horse in my posture, cues, voice, attitude, and softness.
Thank you so much for the informative and encouraging lesson. I appreciate you directing us as horse owners to be confident in ourselves and not be concerned about what others think of us. I realize that my calmness and patience will directly affect my horse,Fritz. I am so grateful and thankful that I am able to be blessed to own such a beautiful animal. I love my horse and I want to do what is best for him. Thank you for offering these 3 lessons free. I want to work on focusing on self talk and being aware of how… Read more »
Barb… thank you!! Even though I’ve not ridden much at all these past few years, I registered for your series, in part because I think you’re fabulous, and because something just told me to do it. In the thick of a very busy day, I immediately watched the first lesson without interruption… and then watched it again. As I write this, I’m still scratching my head from what I learned. My entire life I’ve enjoyed an optimistic attitude toward riding and always strived to be better, for the sake of my horses and for my love of learning. While I’ve… Read more »
Hi, Tanya… Glad you can relate. Thank you for your comment. (-:
definitely enjoyed lesson one. very intrigued. it makes a lot of sense – the roadblocks to being confident. I recently went on two different trail rides with my horse. The first one was great no issues. very enjoyable and I was so happy. then the second one there was more activity on the trail-hikers and other riders. He spooked really bad at two very well behaved mules that were being ridden. He was going to pass them and then all of a sudden did a 180 and I wasn’t prepared and came off. I did get back on but now… Read more »

This came in perfect timing – Four years ago I had just got my horse ready to exhibition and barrel race when I was given a breast cancer diagnosis. Within 24 hours my life was turned inside out and I was pulled from riding for over a year as I went through treatment. I only recently began working with Handsome again and feel I have lost my confidence not just in me but my riding. Not until I listened to lesson 1 did I realize I need to find these 3 steps! Powerful and thank you! I cried during the… Read more »

I just finished watching Lesson One. It hits the nail on the head for me! I have a severe lack of confidence in all 3 areas that you mention. I’m 64 years old. Have been showing reining horses for 20+ years but never feel “I’m good enough” I ride with an excellent trainer, but he is not a good communicator and I find myself getting conflicting advice on different days. I’m not brave enough to question this as any question could be met with insults and the comment to ” go ride someplace else if I dont trust what he… Read more »
I have been riding for about 50 years. I took off about 15 years while I started and cultivated a family (6 children). I started back to riding in 2003 with a Peruvian Paso cross gelding. He was green and I ended up in a bad accident and a lot of pain. I took him to a trainer and got back on (I knew if I didn’t, my husband would see to it that I never rode again). He and I became best friends, until we moved and he was tragically killed. I, then, got a young TWH gelding, took… Read more »
Sure enjoyed Lesson 1! The secret I most resonated with is “Confidence Within” because the lack of it is my biggest roadblock. I expectantly look forward to learning how to grow my confidence as I work through the upcoming lessons. Thank you so much!
My dream from a child up was to have a horse but never got the opportunity to have or even ride one! At 63 years old it came, a friend had horses and offered to let me ride one of his. about 4 or 5 lessons in, fell off, broke arm, crushed wrist. Bought the horse anyway!! After bringing him home after healing the anxiety set in. I was to scared to get on! I’m now 67 and decided he’s to good a horse to be pasture decoration. Took 2 years to find trainer to get him back in shape… Read more »
