Thank you for this lesson. Definitely food for thought. I have a 3 year old QH that I raised from a yearling. He’s an amazing horse and I really see so much potential in him. This is my first experience raising and training a youngster in a discipline I have never done before–reining. I want to have the confidence to follow through on what he’s learning from his trainer at home and do it right.
Hi, Lara… yes… time is one of the factors. I’m glad you’re here.
Grew up riding as it was my life until the age of 14, where I became successful in other sports in high school where they didn’t offer riding. In 2011 I suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and have been in recovery every since. I have gone back to my riding now as I only have a sense of myself being around horses. I am extremely anxious around people as they judge and look down on those (aka me) who don’t do what they do, can’t do what they do or react the way they would to certain things. Yet… Read more »
You KNOW how I LOVE everything you present! This is another fine example…and ties in so beautifully with the Core Confidence course! Thank you, yet again!
Hi, Susan… you’re at the right place! So glad you’re here. (-:
I really enjoyed this first lesson. For me, it’s the riding with confidence. When I watch experienced riders ride hard and fast and are one with their horse, I get very sad that I cannot ride like that and wish with all my heart that I could and really be one with my horse. Being in my early 70s I have strong doubts whether I could ever achieve that kind of confidence and riding ability and to quit worrying about the “what ifs” and just enjoy the ride and experience. I so want that.
Thankyou Barbara. This was wonderful, you just nailed it! I’ve got a horse who is very arrogant but not nasty so confidence within resonates to me. I need to look within for some grit. Also am nervous around other people on horseback as I’m worried that I won’t keep up, so tend to ride in my paddock. Am looking forward to lesson two very much!
That is awesome, Lois! Good for you!!!
Good for you, Carol! How fun! Glad you’re here.
Hi, Brycie… good for all of your great progress. You’re on the right track. (-:

Shelby, after you try that button, if you still. have problems, maybe it’s your internet speed? Just wondering. Hoping pressing the play button will help you.
Thank you Barbra. I loved this first lesson. I stumble on the first secret, confidence within. I am returning to riding after a break due to a skiing accident which has really dented my already fragile confidence. I loved that you asked the question what are your loves values and vision I have always beaten myself up for not being more confident Today I will take a step towards building the skill of confidence by looking inward
Thank you so much for your introduction to learning to be a confident rider. I personally struggle with the inner confident aspects regarding riding & my relationship with my QH mare. At 73 it seems strange to think about confidence but it has been five years now since I have started riding after some 30 years or so of not riding. I place too much pressure on myself when I am learning all the gaits while working with my horse, and when I don’t get them correct I get frustrated & my confidence level hits a low. Lesson 1 has… Read more »
For me I need to work on calming my self in the show pen- and finding and happy medium of calm and grit.
I have a strong grit factor which makes my horse too quick. I call it grit-but it is probably nerves, and worry about performance as people watch!
Thanks for this video series. I look forward to the next 2 lessons. My biggest problems are worrying too much about what could go wrong. I also worry too much about what others think. Not only critical people but supportive ones as well. I get frustrated and embarrassed if I don’t do things perfectly. I’m also a very fit 59 year old but have developed a health issue that can make riding difficult periodically and any kind of mishap a big concern.
I used to not have fear of riding any horse, whether that was the recklessness of being young or what I don’t know. I grew up riding with my dad and have had horses my whole life. But through the series of an accident with a semi-truck, losing people to death and very unhealthy relationships my confidence is shot in every arena. I am just now grasping my boot straps and trying to pull out of this funk. I don’t hardly ride any more and I had dreams of being a great horsewoman, when I do ride I feel very… Read more »
