Take Me Out to the Ball Game

I just returned from a marvelous celebration of my mom’s 90th birthday in St. Louis, Mo.

I grew up in Illinois, just across the river from St. Louis. I also grew up going to Cardinal baseball games. My mom definitely belongs to the Cardinal Nation!

Mom knows how to throw a party. Last Christmas she invited her entire family, plus special friends to a “party room” at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. It was some kind of party and a privilege to honor her.

Thank you, Mom!!!! It was a blast!

August is turning out to be a RED HOT month weather-wise in many places … so stay cool in body, mind and spirit!

  2. It’s a small world. I also was raised in St. Louis (Browns then Cardinals next) My God Father was the late great Dizzy Dean. My family spent many happy evenings at the ball park – the ladies were always dressed up and the men in suits – many of them sporting cigars and hats. What cool memories – the only problem is that I never liked Bush Beer.
My congratulations to your Mom on her Birthday.

    Best Wishes,

  4. Congratulations to your mother. Wow!!

The question is: How did a nice girl from St. Louis end up in the cutting horse business?

  6. Judy,
That’s so cool about Dizzy Dean and the St. Louis Browns. My Dad used to be a minor league pitcher for the Browns. That’s why we were so into baseball. Also, we went through the Busch Brewery while we were there, too. St. Louis has such a tradition for baseball. Thanks for the note.

    Liz,
My Dad (born in southern Illinois, across the river from St. Louis) went from base ball to training mules (which was his Father’s business) and then to horses. He took other people’s problem horses, improved them and resold them. That business expanded eventually to over 500 horses. Dad’s favorite thing to do with a horse was cutting. Hence, a nice girl from the St. Louis area ended up in the cutting horse business. (-: Thanks for asking!
