Rest During the Holidays?
Are You Kidding?
Holidays mean different things to different people, of course. But one thing is universal among all riders. We experience anywhere from a large disruption of our usual horsey activity to a long time away from our favorite friends.
What you may not know is how important that interruption is for the advancement of your riding!
Many think we must keep our nose to the grindstone to be productive. Nothing is further from the truth.
Breaks are not only good, they are necessary to sustain long-term, healthy growth and motivation.
We naturally live in waves of energy and activity (from heart beats, to breathing, to sunrises and sunsets). To illustrate my point, a flat-line heart rate monitor is not ideal!
Here’s the training and performance principle. Activity stimulates growth, while recovery (break time) is WHEN you grow. No downtime means slooooow growth and sometimes burn-out.
Enjoy your holidays. Put your feet up! It’s good for you.

Thank you for giving us permission to rest. I mean it. Recently read an article in the newpaper about how important it is to “do nothing”, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. Power naps should be for everyone. I not only burn my candle at both ends, sometimes I feel like there is no end, my day just goes by as a blur of activity. I know, how about besides resting, we take the time (imagine this) to make an appointment with ourselves to do the things that we want to do, A date with ourselves. A really fun date!
Tell me what you're thinking...
