On January 25th, I Conducted an Hour Long Teleclass That Covered:
1. The results of a survey I did late last year about your fears, concerns, and desires to improve in the mental game department of riding.
2. Nine expanded training strategies I have been working on for the past couple of years.
3. One power-packed tip for each of the nine strategies that you can use now to help you.
4. Tips to help you get rid of that pesky, nagging concern about what other people think.
This Teleclass was a holiday bonus for those of you who have purchased my personal performance products over the years. It was my way of saying thank you. Below are comments from attendees.

Thank you for your generous sharing of inspiration and information. It’s always good to review the basics as well as go to the next step.
Main Entry: god·send
Pronunciation: \ˈgäd-ˌsend also ˈgȯd-\
Function: noun
Etymology: back-formation from god-sent
Date: 1820
: a desirable or needed thing or event that comes unexpectedly
Godsend, is what I believe you are, Barbara. I first found that in “The Gift”.
I belive horses have helped me through the hardest times in my life. Now that I am older, and recovering from major injuries, it is the mental not the pysical, so much, that I need now. Athough I do want to say, that most/all of what you discussed, I needed too, when I was riding and training. Just more now.
Your DVD “Ride with Confidence” was a Christmas present, and my husband and I listened to it, on the way to visit with family over New Years. Your Teleclass was a wonderful review, but I had already started some major changes because of the DVD’s help. I’ll try to be short. When I was told I could not ride any longer, I got Miniature Horses. Worked seriously on a breeding program, learned tons! I did start riding again, always with a helmet. I know there are still limits, but it’s what I want to focus on. I am selling our Miniature Horse Division, so I have more time and energy to ride, and start showing. I’m working hard on keeping and finding the safe, but challenging horses.
Sorry this is so long, but it IS my heart right now. Thank you so much for what you are doing.
There is one request. I’m prety anal, and want to write down all the slide info. I tried to print it, but it did not work. Would there be someway to let us access the outline/notes to follow along, and make notes beside?
Thanks again, please keep up the good work.
Chris Dove
Thank you Barbara for a great teleclass! You hit on so many subjects that I’ve been mulling over, but hadn’t taken the time to address. Know that I have to sit down and really set some goals.
You mentioned a book by Daniel Coyle? What title?
You talked about seeking errors, hopefully you will expand upon that more the next time.
This was in an email this morning, don’t know the author… “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning how to dance in the rain.”
Look forward to February!
Holly Jones
Thanks, Gay and Holly for your feedback. I appreciate it.
The name of the book is “The Talent Code” by Daniel Coyle.
I love the quote about dancing in the rain!! Thank you.
Barbra
Chris…will work on a way to get the slide/outline info to you prior to the class so you can take notes more efficiently. And good job on your progress with your horses. All the best, Barbra
Well done! Your comments on riding are comments on life.
Thank you – as usual lots of great stuff and packed with great tips. One thing I was thinking as I mulled over all my notes – I loved that you included horsemanship in the Nine Strategies. One thing I was thinking that I really am trying to is to excel at my “sportsmanship”. This is my second year showing (ever). I think by being a good sportsman and helping to build others confidence by a passing compliments; it helps to build my self confidence. Here’s an example.
First show of this season was the National Western Stockshow in Denver. I was scared to death. Denver is a very intimidating arena. I got sick from Thanksgiving until Stockshow came and literally was ill to my stomach every time I thought about it. I got there early (at 5:45 am), found our stalls in sad shape, so I cleaned and recleaned stalls after pre-Denver. I was positive, but we needed something to dry out the stalls before the horses got there, so I found the grounds people and they helped me find lime to dry out the stalls. Before it was over, I knew everyone’s name and I graciously thanked them. During the show, I would always thank the grounds keepers. Before it was over, they always stopped, had coffee with us and did “extra’s for us”.
I’m working on many aspects that we addressed yesterday. My self confidence has come so far this past year, and I’m really excited. At Stockshow, even though my horse reared up while I was leading her and somebody yelled at me (that shook me up), but all in all, I’m learning, it is one challenge at a time. Last year I focused on one thing, then moved to the next. Now I’m realizing how much I have to learn about everything, but this journey is soooo wonderful. The great people outweigh the ones with “stinky” attitudes. I’m also learning not to judge people for their attitudes. One never knows what they are going through, just like they don’t know what I’ve come through just to show. For all I know the person that yelled at me at some horse run over them at a show and they were freaked out. All you can do is apologize and go on.
Thanks so much!!!! I’m so excited. (PS – I won my first trail class under one judge – first time ever showing trail and won 5th overall. I was shaking so bad, my horse bridled up and stopped in the box (perfect to make her turnaround). My horse tied for first in Jr Trail and she won 5th overall Western Pleasure. My new horse 1st time showing (my trainer rode him), but he won 4th overall in reining – he’s a cowhorse and reining is not exactly his gig. Overall, 4 rosettes to date, my most intimidating show ever. The best part was, a trainer that saw me last year came over and complimented me on how much I’ve improved over last year. That was cool (especially when I really messed up at the last show he saw me at in September – broke my pattern and was on the wrong lead and the worst part – I never knew the lead was incorrect – yikes!)
Anyway, I will continue to seek the errors!!! YEAH! Thanks again. Looking forward to more!
I wasn’t able to be at my computer for your teleclass and I was very much looking forward to it. I have tried several times now to log on to watch the replay and for some reason it won’t connect. My internet appears to be working for any other site. I will keep trying, but if it still doesn’t work is there any other way to obtain the information you presented? I am hoping to be able to see you at the equine affaire in a couple of weeks. I have been riding cutting horses for the past 5 years and have struggled with my nerves sabotaging my show runs. I am connecting well with my current horse and looking forward to a successful show year and I believe your mental strategies are finally an avenue for me to get past my performance anxiety.
Thank you,
Kristie
Kristie,
I hope you received the email from my Kristie from my office asking you some details of your problems connecting. I want to make sure you can connect with the teleseminar, so please let us know if you are still having problems. I think we have some good ideas for you.
Hope to see you at Equine Affaire!!!!! I hope you will be able to attend all the presentations, both personal performance and cutting to help you with your nerves and your cutting.
Looking forward to meeting you!
Barbra
Reading Kristies post above re watching the teleseminar, I was wondering where the link for the class is. I would really like to see it as well. The original email also stated there would be a 2nd class in February. Do you have a date for that class? Would love to take a mentally tough class if you ever put one on in the Northwest. Thanks so much!
Loved the Class
the very first comment, how many jumpers/barrel racers do you know? I am one. Jumping and Barrel Racing are two horse sports I like to try competing in. While all 9 strategies are important, is it just me to find that different items seem to be more important at different times? For me right now, letting go of what I can’t control is very important, and very hard for me to do.
Thank You for holding this Class.
Michelle,
Thanks for the comment. A real live barrel-jumper, eh? Terrifice!
Yes, it is true that we all need to hear different things at different times. There is an old saying that goes, “When the student is ready the teacher appears.” That is true for all of us, I think.
Best wishes,
Barbra
